The Blue Recliner
In our home we have a blue recliner we bought new about 19 years ago. I have repaired it three times, and it is looking quite worn. We put a throw on top of it to cover the worn areas. And, last month, one of the kids sat in the recliner, and the frame broke. We have been making it last, putting off replacing it, to make sure we have money for things like our kids’ Christian school tuition. We have not been able to use it for several months. Oh, how I miss sitting in that chair and propping up the old legs to read, relax, and yes- even sleep! That old recliner is like no other; it just fits perfectly.

It was no surprise to see them back the next morning with registration fees, a completed application, and more questions.

Promoting Tolerance
In recent years, schools have given an increasing amount of attention to issues surrounding diversity and tolerance. The need for tolerance is not because of an epidemic of hate crimes, but because of the much more mundane and daily social interactions that require treating each other with respect and dignity. Intolerance is most frequently reflected in hallway insults, angry outbursts, social cliques, put-downs, and smug dismissals of others’ viewpoints during class discussions.
